CountryCatCrafts.com
was founded by Helena
Roztocil of Caledonia,
New York, USA, in the
Spring of 2003. Helena
has always loved animals
and has been drawing
them and paining them
all her life. You have
to understand -- our
household has never
had less than 8-10 cats
at any given time in
the last 2 decades.
Currently, there are
10 cats living with
us. The mural at the
head of this page represents
our cats as of about
middle of 2003. Below
are the actual cats
she modeled: |

Our
cats have provided Helena
with inspiration as
well as a great selection
of live models. A few
years ago, Helena decided
to make some some cats
as Christmas gifts for
the family, instead
of buying presents.
These cats were a big
hit, particularly since
these renditions were
modeled after some of
our cats that passed
away. If you search
on cat named "Lida",
you will see a picture
of the first actual
cat she ever made. It
was our son Jake's favorite
cat when he was a little
boy and today it sits
on a door frame at his
house. You can buy one
similar to it, but of,
course, no two cats
Helena makes are the
same, each is uniquely
carved and hand-painted. |

Today,
Helena has her own cat-studio
in the back of our house.
She has various woodworking
tools, carving tools
and the all important
Dremel tool for fine
detail. All the paints
she uses are acrylic-based,
which are safe and are
typically used in craft
applications. Each cat
is individually designed,
cut to general shape
from pine board, then
filed, shaped and carved
to look like to model.
Most of the time she
will take pictures of
the particular cat from
different angles and
then she shapes them
and paints them from
the digital picture
as the model (cats can
sleep for hours but
won't sit with their
eyes open in one place
for very long....) |

Because
each cat is uniquely
hand-crafted, Helena
can make one very specifically
for you. All you need
to do is to go to the
Custom Art page, fill
out the form, (name,
address, etc.), drag
a digital picture of
your favorite cat or
a dog into the browser
form and click the Submit
button. Helena will
make a cat or a dog
for you that looks just
like the picture.
